All light therapies for acne treatment are based on similar technology and information. However, it is very important to follow the manufacturers directions for the product you have chosen. Different lamps may have lights of higher or lower intensity. This will dictate the distance from the light and the duration of exposure for acne treatment.
Most treatments require freshly cleaned skin before applying the light, and it may be necessary to build up to the recommended time of treatment. Watch for signs of dryness, stinging, swelling and redness. These can be normal reactions, but if they persist you may want to discontinue use and seek medical attention. Also, do not use light treatment if you have been diagnosed with porphyria.
Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturers directions it is safe to apply make-up and SPF protection after treatments.
