Facial Oils and Acne Production

It is a common belief that excess facial/body oils promote acne breakouts.  This belief is not untrue.  Often excess oils produced by the skin can get clogged within the pores and build up into acne white heads.  Regular cleansing, refraining from touching the skin and a regular acne treatment regimen can eliminate acne quickly.  Learn more about how to treat acne.

Does Olive Oil Treat Acne?

Does olive oil treat acne? While we have not seen any studies on this subject, it is very likely a myth.

We recognise that everyone’s skin and acne are a little different and that olive oil may have actually helped a few individuals treat their acne. But we don’t believe it is a mainstay acne treatment and that it may actually increast acne break out.

Olive oil is just another oil that the acne bacteria may feed on in conjunction with the sebum that your skin is already producing. If you are adventurous, try treating your acne with olive oil for a week and let us know you thoughts on the results.

If you are serious about treating your acne, you need to learn as much as you can about the existing and proven acne treatments and then apply those methods with discipline. Good luck!

Should You Use Accutane to Treat Your Acne?

While Accutane is typically and effective treatment for acne, it is a harsh and expensive measure that includes some medical risk.  Use of Accutane to treat your acne requires Doctor visits, prescriptions, regular blood tests and if you are female, birth control. Although Accutane is a harsh and expensive acne treatment it has been shown to be very effective.

When considering the use of Accutane to treat your acne, we suggest you first try a regular acne treatment regimen such as Acne Ansr, Acne.org or Proactiv for at least one  month to determine whether or not your acne will respond to regular acne cleansing and treatment. If your acne can be treated by a disciplined acne cleansing, light or other treatment, we discourage the use of Accutane. If your acne does not respond to a regular acne regimen, consult your dermatologist and then decide whether Accutane is the best approach for treating your acne.

Should You Moisturize While Treating Acne?

There are so many methods and products for treating acne that simple questions such as whether to moisturize your skin while treating acne become difficult to answer.  Moisturizing is an essential part of a regular skin care routine that will keep your skin looking young and healthy for years to come.

When treating acne, your skin may dry, crack or peal. Not only is dry, cracked or peeling conditions bad for your skin, it may reduce your skin’s ability to fight acne bacteria in the long run as it works to recover from harsh conditions. On the other hand, over moisturizing your skin may also contribute to acne break outs as a result of too much moisture which provides good breading ground for acne causing bacteria on the skin.  The key to taking care of your skin while treating acne is to find a light moisturizer that will moisturize your skin without contributing to acne.  The best moisturizer we have found so far is light and unscented and only available at acne.org. This moisturizer was designed specifically for moisturizing your skin while treating acne.
